What is KidCast?
KidCast is a podcast series created by young people, for young people.
Each episode is hosted by Céire O’Donoghue and a different child guest host. We hear from voices around Ireland (and the world!) interviewing guests, reporting child friendly news, teaching fun facts and above all providing a fun and entertaining podcast experience for kids.
Who is Céire?
Céire O’Donoghue is the creator and producer of the 'KidCast' podcast series and podcasting initiative. During lockdown, podcasts became a fun and engaging learning tool for her three children, however Céire soon that there was very little audio content created specifically by and for Irish children at that time. Drawing on her background in drama (BA Drama and German, Trinity College Dublin) acting and VoiceOver (Bristol Old Vic Theatre School) and eradicating (Today FM School of Radio and Podcasting) Céire set out to create a platform where young people's curiosity, creativity and perspectives could take centre stage. With Arts Council support, 'KidCast' was launched in 2021.
Céire went on to produce a second 'KidCast' series and new spin off series 'KidCast School Tour' for RTÉjr Radio. This has led her to working with primary and secondary schools across Ireland, helping children and young people develop skills in storytelling, interviewing, audio production, creative communication and media literacy. Her work has been recognised at the Irish Podcast Awards, where she was named the 2023 Rising Star and has received accolades for Best Family Podcast and Drama & Documentary programming. She is also currently shortlisted for a Sanford St Martin's Trust Award.
Alongside her work as a producer, Céire delivers podcasting residencies, teacher training and creative workshops throughout Ireland. Her programme are supportive and participant-led, empowering children and young people to build confidence, collaborate creatively and develop a strong sense of ownership over their ideas, stories and shows.
Céire is passionate about creating opportunities for young people to find and share their voices through creative media. KidCast provides a safe and mediated platform to do just that.
